Yoga for Hips!

yoga for hips
hip openers
hip flexibility
tight hips

I come to you from sunny California....where I'm experiencing the local yoga scene (meaning I took some local classes) and soaking up the healing and restorative rays of the sun.

By popular request, we will be taking this Saturday's CommUNITY Yoga + Meditation to focus on the hips. Hip releasing (as in tightness), hip opening, hip flexibility, etc.

We hold lots of stress and tension in our hips and it's such an important part of our posture and our low back health.

Did you know:

  • Strong hips are crucial for safe, injury-free movement. And yoga is the perfect low-impact workout to help build both strength and stability in those muscles.
  • The hips are an important storage vessel of emotional stress because of the psoas' link to the adrenal glands and the location of the sacral chakra. Next time you're in yoga class doing hip-opening postures, you might just notice that there's a lot more going on than just a simple stretch
  • There are over 20 muscles that cross the hip (the collection of inner thigh muscles known as the adductors, the collection of outer thigh muscles known as the abductors, the hip flexors in front, deep lateral rotators in back, and more), so any movement that stretches any of these muscles could be considered a “hip-opener.” For this reason, we could argue almost every pose is effectively a “hip-opener.”
