What's that crackling sound when I move & bend?

When you move, particularly a joint, you may hear a crackling sound. To see what I'm referring to, try gently dropping your chin to your chest....then slowly rolling your right ear towards your right shoulder....then chin towards your chest....then roll your left ear towards your left shoulder. Can you hear that crackling sound?

Synovial fluid is found in joints and tendons and the sound you hear is that fluid breaking up. This fluid acts as a lubricant to enable your limbs to move in their sockets. When your joints get stiff, the fluid gets stuck. Moving your limbs and joints breaks up these 'stuck' pockets and allows things to move smoothly again.

That's one of the reasons it's good to keep moving your body and yoga moves all the joints and limbs in one well-rounded practice!

The more you practice yoga, the fewer stuck pockets (if any) you will have, and you'll feel less stiffness and your movement less inhibited.
