Self Care is Not All Bubble Baths & Facials

But ALL of that is awesome and can be part of it.

The word "self-care" has been hijacked by marketers looking to capitalize on a new trend. But self-care shouldn't be a trend, it should be an every day, every week, every month practice. So, let's change the words around a bit to give it a little more meaning.

Take care of yourself.

Now it begins to sound a little more important, more of a priority. What does it mean to take care of yourself? I think we all have a pretty good idea. There are many ways we can and should take care of ourselves. Below are some important categories to consider.

"During my native prayer walk up into the mountains I sat in meditation with the plants, trees and rocks and received a message to share with you. “Self Care is a skill that takes time to learn and like most skills, it gets better every time we use it.”

Billie Topa Tate, Native American Healer

Here are some self care ideas for you to incorporate into each day:

  • Do a puzzle
  • Color
  • Hang out with family or roommates
  • Call someone you love
  • Go for a walk, hike, run, or bike ride/spend time outside
  • Watch a funny video or cute animal video
  • Create a gratitude list
  • Unplug for the day
  • Turn on the radio and dance
  • De-clutter your living space
  • Explore the city (by yourself or with your friends/team)
  • Online shopping
  • Watching a movie
  • Take a nap
  • Find a hobby
  • Follow wellness accounts on IG, Twitter, or Facebook
  • Reflect on personal goals, meditate, or do yoga
  • Create an “I’m Bored” jar
  • Read a book
  • Get a massage
  • Prep some healthy meals for some healthy eating

Now, how about a 30 day challenge to get you started?

I'd love to hear about how you feel during and after the 30-day challenge. If some of the above suggestions don't appeal to you, just substitute something that does! You will never go wrong making yourself a priority and you might just likely go right.

Here's to YOU!
