Create a clearing in the dense forest that is your life...

mindfulness
retreat
be an agent of change

Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
patiently,
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself to this world
so worthy of rescue.

~ Martha Postlethwaite

"Create a clearing in the dense forest of your life". So beautiful, take a moment and visualize that. And then she says "wait there patiently". The way I read this, really reminds me of mindfulness or meditation. Taking a moment, breathing out and then pausing (waiting), giving yourself some space. Martha continues... "wait there patiently until the song that is your life falls into your own cupped hands". Again...beautiful. What I hear, is you will be given information and because you are quiet and waiting patiently, you will now have the opportunity to be aware of the thoughts and ideas that come to you. You're not so busy being busy that you don't notice.

I love this poem and I love the message that she is sending. I have personally become consistent (and almost addicted!) to my meditation time each day. It's usually in the morning but sometimes I do it later or do it multiple times a day. It really depends on what is going on and how much I feel I 'need' to stop and take a pause. In part because my life today involves so much creating, I have even taken it a step further and I take one week each quarter to be in nature, breathe fresh air, put myself into an environment of silence and I meditate, read, day dream and allow inspiration to arise.

Everyone's life has different challenges, however see if you can take this concept that Martha writes about in her lovely poem above and integrate at least a small part of it into your lives.

Namaste

Karen
